Is small. Got a nice third gear pull on the highway, god damn she moves! The profile shot show how much it needs bigger wheels/tires. I am not lowering it I like my suspension to move.

Honestly, although the wheels are obviously your choice, I like the period appropriate wheels on there.

I’m with you on not lowering it. I have a different opinion on the larger wheels but it’s your car so my opinion is just a fart in the wind. Given the car’s basic goodness I’m sure it will look great  either way.

I think the wheels/tires look just right. Go any larger on wheels and you may as well just lower it, both will end up killing your ride quality.

Also, is your rear axle out of alignment or do the rear wheels usually sit towards the front of the opening like that?

100% agree.

I’m not changing them any day soon, the tires are brand new and were free so that’s like 5 years away. The popular upgrade is to go to 15" wheel and a 55 series tire.

No, the rear axle is aligned correctly it’s a independent rear suspension macpherson strut  set up . That’s just an awkward angle for the car.

My dads car is set up for racing. The suspension basically doesn’t move until you are going 80 mph or taking a corner full tilt with slicks. I like ride compliance in a car that I’m going to drive around the valley.

We have the steel wheels and hub caps too, the thing is those hub caps are like $200 a piece and tend to pop off when you start hauling ass around corners.

I had a ‘79 280 ZX many moons ago, and I loved it. I thought it had a great balance of power vs handling. Many stupid driving decisions were made behind the wheel of that car . :)  I would love to have it back, and am jealous of your 240z. I’ve always liked the looks of that generation better.

Putting on larger wheels will make it worse.

And it looks fine the way it is.

15" sounds fine.  Certainly wouldn’t go bigger.

Shit.  Yeah, hold on to those until there’s a way to keep them on for sure.

Ooh fellow 240z owner. A neat trick is to undercoat the wheel wells, the absence of contrast makes the car appear a bit lower without actually compromising ride height. The cut 280z linear tokico springs on KYB’s had a really really really good ride, although I don’t think they sell them anymore.

I’d vote for going straight to 16's if you were considering stepping up to a 15. I spent a lot of time there and I like the 16's a lot more now. 17's are a bit too big for the shape without flares.

Looks real clean though! Same original color as mine.

This car is so original it still has the smog pump hooked up, and it works.

Stock suspension with high quality gas dampers and stock size tires, whatever those were, is what I’d do if it were my car. 70-series?

Nice car. I’d love a chance to drive one of those someday.

185/70 R14 was the stock size. These are 195/60  14’s. So the speedo is 5 mph fast. It’s a great car to drive. Big people can actually fit into it comfortably and it has torque for days.
